ISLE MADAME ATV RIDER’S ASSOCIATION

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

OCTOBER 26, 2011

It gives me great pleasure to report to you on behalf of the Board of Directors for the first 6 months of the year.

I am pleased to report that your Board of Directors have had four meetings since our last annual meeting. The attendance has been exceptionally good.  Only one board member has not attended any meetings since the AGM, reason unknown as of the time of writing this report. However, there is no need to find a substitute for the balance of the year since Greg Power agreed to stay on the board after the board elections. Committee chairs were appointed and committee members were added to most of the various committees. Committee chairs will be reporting to you following my report.

I believe there has been quite a bit accomplished by handful of people in the last six months including the time it took to establish where we were at, where we wanted to go and trying to determine what we thought we could accomplish in the short term.  Set budgets and deadlines for identified projects followed by doing proposals for funding.  I wish to personally thank Glenn Bennett and his Planning and Development Committee along with Brent kinslow and Tony Pierce and their Trail and Rally committee for all the time and effort they have afforded to the club over the last 6 months.

Proposals for funding were sent to Atvans, Health and Promotions, the Municipality of the County of Richmond and NSPower totalling approximately $24000 to cover the work done this fall. Both Atvans and Health and Promotion have been approved. The Municipality, which represents 75% of the requested funds has been verbally approved and a cheque for the amount requested should be in the mail this week. NSPower will assess our request by the end of December.

I have met several times with DNR and DOT in regards to the Rocky Bay rear line. An application has been submitted to DOT for a permit and is still pending. Gaining access to the rear line on the Pondville side from the Forest Management Road is going to be a big task and will require much more membership involvement if it’s going to happen. Our trail has been cut off in Rocky Bay because of new housing and a temporary trail has been opened to get us by for now.

The board have agreed to take on the selling of tickets through Atvans which is a great fund raiser and am pleased to report that the sales are going very well. Thanks to all those who have agreed to sell them and especially to Tina Kinslow who took charge of distribution and accounting.

The Municipality have indicated they want to participate in the Winter Fest Rally again this year and a meeting will be held shortly to begin the plans. Again this event will require lots of volunteers so please come forward.

We have solicited our MLA, Warden, local councillors and CAO in support of a proposed resolution by the Town of Yarmouth whom are soliciting the Provincial Government to “designate authority to allow municipal units to formulate their own by-laws for the purpose of making regulations to allow off-highway vehicle traffic in order to connect multi-trail connections.”  This if it were accepted is probably our only opportunity of ever dreaming to connect our trail system to the Trans Canada Trail via the Lennox Passage. It could also apply to other areas where we have no access between trails.

I would like to thank the Executive Tony, Andrea and Harry for all their help and support.  I also want to thank the Board of Directors and their committees for their commitment and involvement. These people volunteer many hours of their time to the club and deserve to be commended. Thank s also to everyone else who may have assisted in one way or the other.

Respectfully submitted

Clarence Landry

President
